So, if you’re over the age of 40, it’s important to have your hearing tested regularly. Here at Pinder Eyecare, our hearing tests are completely free, carried out by one of our qualified hearing aid dispencers. Children's Eye Care

Your child is never too young for an eye examination. We recommend to give them their first eye exam around the age of 3 years. Good vision is essential in every child’s development and regular eye examinations are the key to good eyesight. A child does not have to be able to read the letters or pictures on the Chart, to have their eyes examined. We can tell how well the eyes are seeing using simple tests and using instruments (shinning lights) and watching how the eyes respond. A recent Eyecare Trust study found that around a million young people in the UK have undetected vision problems which may cause difficulty in learning. Whilst more than 90% of children visit a dentist regularly, just over 50% have ever had an eye test. (Reference: Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Survey 2013). It is claimed that over 80 percent of what a child learns in school is visually, so ensuring that your son or daughter has good vision can make a significant difference in their academic performance. It’s easy for parents/guardians to think there’s nothing wrong with their child’s sight, not realising that vision can change quickly as young children’s eyes develop. The NHS provide free glasses for children and at Pinder Eyecare, we provide a Free Second pair as spares – as accidents can happen. Repairs and replacements are also provided Free by the NHS, for under 16’s. Our junior range includes: Ray- Ban, No Fear, Nike, Disney's Frozen, Danger Mouse, Peter Rabbits Horrid Henry, Emogji, Marvel We recommend an annual eye examination for your children and a parent or guardian must be present when a child is having an eye examination. Click here to book an appointment. We understand the test room can feel a little intimidating for a young child so we ensure that techniques are used to make each child feel as welcome and as relaxed as possible.

As part of our commitment to giving you the best possible eye care, we now offer a state of the art, advanced OCT 3D eye scan that can detect eye disease at the earliest possible stage. Our OCT eye scan allows us to easily and accurately detect numerous key eye conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease during your routine eye test. Up to 80% of vision impairment and blindness can be prevented by early detection with our OCT eye scan. Throughout a normal eye examination, your optometrist can only see the top layer of your retina. The 3D OCT scan allows viewing of the deeper layers of retinal tissues, giving you the peace of mind that comes with knowing your eyes are in great condition.

WHAT IS OCT? Ocular Coherence Tomography is a non-intrusive advanced eye scan that allows us to view each layer of the retina. No matter your age, you can have an OCT scan. Much like an ultrasound, OCT uses light instead of soundwaves to illustrate the layers within the back of the eye. Our 3D OCT eye scan also captures a digital photograph of the surface of the eye at the same time, this is then cross-referenced with any areas of concern. Click here to watch our OCT Video WHAT HAPPENS DURING OCT? You will sit in front of the OCT machine and rest your head on a support. The equipment will then scan your eye without touching it. The process is completely painless and scanning takes approximately 20 seconds per eye. The optometrist will then take the time to explain the results to you and show you how your eye looks in 3D.

WHEN & HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE AN OCT EYE SCAN? If you decide to have the scan carried out, it will be included every time you have your eyes examined with us. We strongly recommend the scan if: You are over 40 years old Blurriness or impaired vision Straight lines appear wavy or bent Trouble reading or concentrating on activity Dark vision or empty patches in the centre of your vision HOW MUCH DOES AN OCT EYE SCAN COST? An OCT eye scan costs a one-off payment of £20.
