What is included in our Advanced Eye Test:
- A detailed history taking and task analysis
- Muscle balance tests
- Refractive test- long-sighted, short-sighted, astigmatism or near correction determined
- Anterior and corneal examination
- Measurement of eye pressure
- Dilation of pupils if necessary
- Slit lamp examination involving careful assessment of optic nerve, blood vessels, retinal health and macula.

Recognising the Signs & Symptoms
High resolution retinal photography is a very useful way of monitoring ocular health and diagnosing ocular pathology.
It is also very interesting way to learn about your eye health by viewing the images taken. The retina is then light sensitive skin that covers the back of the eye. It is similar to that of a film inside a camera.
Light enters the eye and travels to the back. The retina detects the light and turns it into electrical signals which are sent to the brain. This is the ‘film processing’ centre where the signals are converted into the images that we can see. Therefore, maintaining a healthy retina is extremely important.

Traditional retinal photography allows us to capture the central portion of the retina. At Pinder Eyecare we carry out this type of image in every NHS Primary Eye Test. It allows us to examine ~30 to 50 degrees of the whole retina.
The Visionix Widefield Retinal Camera allows us to examine a much wider area; ~up to 200degrees which is around 95% of the whole retina.
Why is this beneficial?
We want to make sure the whole retina is healthy, not just the centre. Is is particularly beneficial for conditions such as:
- Retinal Detachment/Tears/ Hole
- Retinal pigmentation including Naevus (freckle) or Melanoma
- Diabetic Retinopathy
- Retinal changes linked to High Blood Pressure or High Cholesterol
- Peripheral retinal degenerations
