- Rate of progression
- Lifestyle and sport
- Comfort with glasses or contact lenses
- Ability to wear their treatment consistently
Depending on your child, this could include lifestyle changes, specialist glasses, contact lenses or ortho-k lenses.
Myopia Management Glasses
Essilor Stellest:
Stellest lenses look like ordinary glasses, but they have lots of tiny lens elements built into them. In very simple terms, these elements help change the way light focuses around the edge of the eye. This creates a gentle signal that tells the eye to slow down its growth.
That matters because myopia usually gets worse when the eye continues to grow too long.
Stellest lenses do not reverse myopia or make the prescription disappear, but they are designed to help slow that growth.
Hoya MiYOSMART:
MiYOSMART lenses also look much like ordinary glasses, but they use a different lens design to help manage myopia. The central part of the lens helps your child see clearly. The surrounding areas contain many small sections that gently change where some of the light focuses. This is designed to send a signal to the eye that has been clinically proven in the majority of cases to slow its growth.
Both Stellest and MiYOSMART lenses are designed to slow myopia progression compared with ordinary single-vision lenses.
Contact Lenses
MiSight:
MiSight contact lenses are soft, daily disposable lenses specifically designed for myopia management.
They are a great option for children that don’t want to wear glasses at all times, especially those who are active or sporty.
Ortho-K:
Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, uses specially designed rigid contact lenses worn overnight.
While your child sleeps, the lenses gently re-shape the front surface of the eye meaning your child can go through the day without glasses or contact lenses.
